Discover the town where history is on every corner and the light has inspired world famous painters
Welcome to the top of Denmark and a very special old town, with so many wonderful stories and the Skagen Painters. Many famous Nordic painters spent much of their life in Skagen and put their mark on the town. As an old fishing village, you should try the best fish in the country, at the harbour with its very special atmosphere.
Relax on beaches of beautiful white sand and a clear, inviting sea. The nature in and around the city is truly unique, here, where Denmark ends and 'the two seas' meet, a must when you are here.
The story of fishermen struggling, through all sort of weather, in a fight between life an death, is not new. Here we can see three different and very important lighthouses that complement their story and started the Danish Lighthouse Society.
Skagen comes to life in the summer, but it is certainly worth a visit all year round. You sure to be inspired by the very special atmosphere of this beautiful, old, fishing village with its quaint ochre coloured house with red roofs edged in white.
From Aalborg's railway station with its important connections to the whole of Denmark, we travel to the centre of Skagen. Here we:
-soak up the atmosphere as you amble through the old streets of quaint cottages
-relax on the harbour front in one of the old, red, former fishermen's workshops, now cafés and restaurants, whilst gazing at the activity in the marina
-hear about the link between Brøndums Hotel and the Skagen painters, whilst you visit the Art Gallery and artists' houses.
All to soon we must board our train, say farewell to an enchanting spot, and return to Aalborg.

I wish I could give Anita 20 stars. She was our last private tour (Bergen, Flam, Stavenger, Oslo and Skagen), and she was the best - agreed by all 6 of us. She is bubbly, delightful, and truly loves guiding. She brought us local treats - licorice and candy and more - and even a gift for my husband and me as it was our anniversary. She took 100s of group photos of us! Really, Anita is down to earth, knowledgeable of the area, friendly, and we can't recommend her enough.
