Siena- A medieval gem
You can't visit Tuscany without a day trip to Siena! Bathed in the warm, rosy glow of bricks and terracotta this medieval gem can't help but enchant you. The vast shell-shaped Piazza del Campo seems to ring with the thundering of horses hooves, the ancient Palio race can be felt in the air, seen in the faces of the locals who live and breathe the small world of their Contrada, proudly and defiantly.
You get the uncanny sensation of having stepped 800 years back in time. Amazingly unspoilt and full of fascinating nooks and crannies, and undeniably crowned by the magnificent Cathedral with its sumptuous decor and art treasures.
You will be welcomed behind the scenes of one of the contradas, discovering fascinating facts about the most famous horse race of the world, run around the hairpin bends of the central square twice a year. Siena is also famous for its local fair, in particular, its special cakes and biscuits, such as Panforte and Ricciarelli and its full-bodied Chianti wines. A magical experience.
