This tour is great for all travellers who are interested in military history!
This tour is meant for those who are interested in the history of World War II. It is devoted to the 900 days and nights of the Siege of Leningrad, September 1941 - January 1944, when the city was completely cut off from the rest of the country by the Nazi troops. Not only did the city survive, but victoriously crushed the enemy. During this 5-hour tour you will visit the most important monuments devoted to the unprecedented heroic defence of Leningrad, Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetary and the Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad.
Please note that the Museum of the Defence and Siege of Leningrad is closed on Tuesdays.
The Museum of the Defense and Siege of Leningrad was established after the end of the blockade in 1944 and closed down in 1948 by the order of Stalin.
The main exhibiton chronicles both the military and the civilian aspects of the blockade. The displays tell the story about the beginning of the Siege through numerous photographs, arms and personal belongings of Soviet and German soldiers.
The central displays show a lot of propaganda material, a mock-up of a typical apartment interior of the time, an example of the daily bread ration (125 grams for civilians!) and numerous testaments about the horrors of life under siege.
Piskarevskoye Memorial Cemetery, the largest in the world cemetery of the victims of WWII, where more than 500, 000 people are buried in mass graves. During the Siege, Leningrad lost about 1 million people. You will see not only the cemetery and the eternal flame, but also the diary of a small girl Tanya Savicheva where she made records of the deaths of all her family members.

Alexander is pleasant, informative. The tour itself is very interesting. I found the blockade museum particularly interesting. I recommend this tour as something maybe a little off the typical tourist route. Thanks Alexander!
