Full Day Tour of Tunis & Environs for Cruise Ship Passengers
An excellent tour of Tunis and its main attractions, for passengers arriving by cruise ship at the port of La Goulette. We begin with a walking tour of old Tunis with its narrow lanes, markets, mosques & palatial residences. We pass through the bustling souks of spices, herbs, clothing & gold & visit the Souk des Chechias, where the traditional red hats of the Maghreb are still made by hand. After a short break, we continue to ancient Carthage, the legendary city of Queen Dido & Hannibal. We visit the Tophet (the ancient necropolis/sanctuary), Byrsa Hill, the Carthage Museum, the Punic ports from which Hannibal set sail and the Imperial Roman Antonine Baths; in the 2nd century AD, the 3rd largest in the Roman world. We continue to Sidi Bou Said, for a walking tour of this picturesque Andalusian village. Sidi Bou Said is renowned for its blue & white architecture, colorful doors and magnificent views. Return to the Port.
