The silent city
Mdina is nicknamed the 'silent city'. It lives up to its name mostly in the evening when the dim lights transform the streets into romantic lanes…
The entire population in the citadel counts approximately 240 people. Formerly known as the city of Melite, the 'honey' city, this fortress was created by the ancient Romans around two thousand years ago. Erected on one of Malta's highest peaks approximately one hundred eighty meters above sea level, Mdina is the ancient capital city of Malta.
The Verdala Palace, situated on the outskirts of Mdina was once upon a time the hunting lodge of the famous Knights of Malta. Today, the summer residence of Her Excellency, the President of Malta.
