The no-holds-barred guide to bargaining and buying the right stuff
You've been here a few days or are on a whirlwind trip. Either way, you're not sure where you can buy things for your loved ones back home. That's where I come in. I can show you where all the best buys are. . . be they authentic or ironic. Having written for newspapers and magazines in the lifestyle and retail space for almost 20 years, I know exactly where all the good stuff is. AND I'm not getting a cut from the stores like all the drivers/touts are. I'll take you around for the sheer love of pretty things. And help you bargain them down to a decent price too (in street shops where bargaining is necessary). Apart from the usual silk stoles, real and costume jewellery, embroidered slippers, cushion covers, bags, brass bric-a-brac, etc etc, Mumbai also has a host of very quirky, original stores that stock Indie kitsch made by young designers. These make for attractive souvenirs and gifts. In clothes too, there's a vast variety of options. Come on, let's go shopping!!!
This would depend on your shopping list. . . Your budget, how many things you need to buy, how many things you want to buy once you're out shopping, and your own energy levels. As for me, I can go on and on when it's to do with buying nice things! We can figure out the perfect itinerary for you once you book the tour.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Anywhere in South Mumbai... at your hotel, cruise terminal or at a mutually acceptable designated spot that we will decide on while you're booking the tour.
End location: Anywhere in South Mumbai... at your hotel, cruise terminal or at a mutually acceptable designated spot that we will decide on while you're booking the tour.
Duration: 4 hours
If you think you'll need longer, perhaps you can book two tours, back-to-back...
For groups of 1-4, I use only Toyota Innovas, as they are clean, modern, air-conditioned, with sufficient legroom and space for people of height and girth and good ground clearance to give you a smooth ride.
My insider knowledge of the best places to shop at (a skill honed to perfection over the years!), the interesting stores, pop-up shops, etc that are on at the moment, and how to deal with the various shop attendants.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
2000 Rupees (INR) - Stopping for a bite en route will cost about INR 1000 per person. The rest depends on your own shopping budget, of course!
All meals, shopping expenses, etc.

Priya showed me areas of Bombay (as she like to call her city) not usually seen by tourists, such as a local fish market and I appreciated that. The driver was excellent, though his job was not as difficult as usual as it was Sunday, I asked to go over the newly built Bandra-Worli Sealink and we did that as it was easy on Sunday. She explained the different ways that people live in the city, from the nomads living on the streets to the wealthy in homes. I was impressed at how clean the streets were
