Georgia's old capital with its heritage and Iron age rock-hewn town
Shio Mghvime Monastery - literally means "the cave of Shio". Place was founded by the 6th-century monk St. Shio, one of the Thirteen Assyrian Fathers who came to Georgia as Christian missionaries.
Samtavro Nunnery - was built in the 4th century by King Mirian III of Iberia.
Svetitskhoveli Cathedral - located in the historic town of Mtskheta (old capital of Georgia). A masterpiece of the Early Middle Ages, Svetitskhoveli is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
Jvari Monastery - "Monastery of the Cross" for the Georgian monastery in Jerusalem with the same name. Along with other historic structures of Mtskheta, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
Uplistsikhe - literally, "the lord's fortress" is an ancient rock-hewn town. It contains various structures dating from the Early Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages and is notable for the unique combination of various styles of rock-cut cultures, as well as the co-existence of pagan and Christian architecture.
