Discover the most prominent urban scenes of São Paulo city

Since the end of the 1990's, the discussion about "what is vandalism, what is art" was no more necessary. The Street Art became a new trademark of São Paulo city with a lot of new local artists, some of them inspired by the tagging, called by the locals as "pixo", others by the studios and schools of art. The starting point of a big urban art movement that transformed streets, blocks, overpasses, abandoned buildings and alleys in colorful places around the city.

In this tour, let's visit the North Zone of São Paulo, an area considered one of the cradles of the local Street Art. The highlight is the MAAU (Open Air Museum of Urban Art), a row of columns painted by famous street artists.

Another important stop is at downtown São Paulo places like Arouche, Santa Cecília and Roosevelt Square, where we can take a look in a lot of huge amazing murals painted over the old billboards. The last stop is Vila Madalena, especially the famous Batman's Alley and the many surrounding studios and art galleries.

Itinerary

MAAU - The Open Air Museum of Urban Art is a mandatory place if you are talking about Street Art in São Paulo. The location is the North Zone of the city, one of the cradles of the movement. The columns of the subway line were transformed by the artists and inspired the local government to renovate this abandoned area.

Downtown - Let's explore the central area of the city and traditional neighborhoods as Arouche, Luz, Cambuci and Santa Cecília to find big murals that replace the old advertising billboards at the side of buildings. At the same time, we are going to have more contact with a controversial kind of Street Art, the tagging, called by the locals as "Pixo"

Vila Madalena - The famous Batman's Alley and the surrounding art galleries show how the Street Art became popular and transformed this area in one of the most important touristic points of São Paulo city.
