From the mid of the island a stroll to the south
When we start our tour and first see Fira town on our way to the Prehistoric museum of the town. It works as an introduction to what follows, the actual dig, the archeological site of Acrotiri, the so called lost Atlantis!
The findings are by 95% exhibited in the Museum, so the best way to understand this prehistoric civilization is to first see the art and sofisticated everyday life of the ones inhabiting Acrotiri 3000 years ago.
Then we drive to the site, which lies about 15 minutes away to the South. The part of the city that was uncovered 6 decades ago is protected by a special roof that allows us to roam through the dig in the SHADE and walk pretty close to the well preserved buildings of the bronze age.
Then we drive for another 10 minutes and we find ourselves at the beach! More specifically Perissa beach, a five kilometer long bay, with dark grey sand and there we have many options in terms of a break. Either you want to try the crystal clear waters of the Aegean, or have lunch.
At Fira and Fira museum we ll spent 45 minutes
At Akrotiri site we will stay approx for 1 hour 30 minutes
At the Black beach about 1 hour

Theo was great! He arrived as scheduled at our hotel, and we set off for the Museum. He gave a very helpful explanation of the history of Greece and the archaeological site of Akrotiri, which is a snapshot in time. Having a knowledgeable guide identify things we would have overlooked (water pipes, sewage systems) really helped our understanding of the site. We were very appreciative that Theo gratiously changed our itinerary so it would not duplicate what our tour group was doing the next day.
