The Queen's Estate and Houghton Hall
*If you are after a specific date and I am not available please contact me the date and I will see if I can change my calendar to fit you in.
Sandringham is the country retreat of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and has been the private home of four generations of British monarchs. The house is set in 24 hectares of stunning gardens, and is perhaps the most famous stately home in Norfolk and is at the heart of the 8, 000-hectare Sandringham Estate.
Houghton Hall was built by Great Britain's first Prime Minister, Sir Robert Walpole, it was passed to the Cholmondeley family through marriage at the end of the eighteenth century.
These two stunning Manor houses make Downton Abbey look like a normal house. This is an all day trip of approximately 8-9 hours and is arguably the two most beautiful public manor houses in the UK. I think the fact the Queen still uses Sandringham as her retreat sums up just how beautiful this estate is.
Norfolk has some of the lowest quantity of rain fall in the UK but it is always worth bringing waterproof clothing and umbrellas. If the rain is especially horrible we may have to miss out the gardens in which case I will find us somewhere else to go to fill in the extra time.
I would recommend comfortable walking shoes as these Manor's and there grounds are enormous in size. Sandringham alone is 4 hours worth.

Barry was a wealth of local history knowledge and was flexible and adaptable - an unplanned pit stop at the pub was seamlessly integrated into our tour.
