from Pier 39 to Ghiradelli and more with a private guide
Fisherman's Wharf is one of the most popular destinations of San Francisco. Our walking tour will venture beyond the souvenir shops and fast food restaurants and explore the history of this important area. We will begin at Pier 39 with a look at the Stellar Sea Lions and proceed along the Embarcadero (mostly flat) until we reach Ghiradelli Square. We will stop along the way to note the active fishing boats, historical ships, Seaman's Chapel and the restored former factories (Cannery and Ghiradelli)
We begin our tour at Pier 39, hear about the origins of the Pier and observe the sea lions. Then we will proceed to walk along the waterfront.
We will visit the Musee Mechanique with its old fashioned arcade games (relics of Playland at the Beach)
We will walk along Pier 43 to observe the Jeremiah O'Brian
We will visit the Seamen's Chapel
We will stop at the San Francisco Maritime National Visitors Center (1/2 hour) to explore the exhibits
We will walk along Hyde Street Pier to see some of the historic ships
We will observe the new and old at Ghiradelli Square.
Along the way, the tour guide will point out interesting features and facts about each location and add other stops depending on time.
