A mix of history, art and cuisine in the heart of the country
The capital of Costa Rica is an eclectic city. Many cultural groups are present in this vibrant hub.
This tour features the best of history, architecture, gastronomy, must-see places and locals' favorite spots. It is an excellent introduction for first time visitors.
Walk the old neighborhood with its well kept european sytle houses and small cafes, and discover a piece of world history that is hidden here.
Visit the National Theatre, considered the jewel of the city and the most important cultural center in the country since the XIX century. Here you will be surprised by the beautiful works of art and architecture in general.
Then enjoy a stroll around Barrio Escalante, an up-scale neighborhood that has been turned into a gastronomy place-to-go where you will certainly have the chance to satisfy your cravings.
There will be time for an espresso or iced-coffee at a "third-wave" coffee shop.
We start our tour at the National Theatre in downtown San José. The theatre itself is a master piece, second to none in beauty and elegance. If you wish you can take a tour inside this emblematic building of San José where you will learn about the history and culture of Costa Rica.
Then, we walk down the boulevard along the Central and Second avenue discovering other buildings declared as "architectonical heritage", such as the National Museum, the Blue Castello and the Jade Museum. Cultural centers, classic barrios, churches, parks and plazas are also part of our relaxed-pace walking tour.
Then we head East towards Barrio La California, La Antigua Aduana and Barrio Escalante where we can enjoy lunch at any of the many restaurants and pubs.
Our tour finishes by enjoying a good cup of coffee at a Specialty Coffee House.

We can't say enough good things about our tour with Jorge. His knowledge of San Jose and Costa Rica overall is extensive, his English is excellent, and his demeanor kind, thoughtful and fun. Our experience with him was fulfilling, fun, comfortable and safe. His tour exceeded our expectations and he went beyond the call of duty to make it so. And, we all feel we now have a new friend in San Jose! We highly recommend him without hesitation.
