Discover the more quiet and human face of this fascinating city.
On this tour you will get a different view of the third biggest capital of Brazil. This tour takes you to the Lower City where our principal destination is the peninsula of Itapagipe, completely surrounded by the calm waters of the bay and an oasis of peace at only 8 km from the busy harbour area. We visit the neighbourhoods of Ribeira, with fantastic views on the Bay of All Saints and some small marinas with their schooners and sailboats. Then Bonfim, with the famous church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, an important place for pilgrimage where the syncretism between Catholicism and Candomblé still lives strongly. Finally Boa Viagem with the imponent Fort of Monte Serrat and the Ponta de Humaitá, the most romantic spot in Salvador because of the possibility to see one of the most wonderful sunsets of Brazil! Depending on your interest, we can visit the biggest and swarming open market of the city, called São Joaquim, or the well known Mercado Modelo, where tourists can by souvenirs in its small shops.
We pick you up at your hotel if in the center of Salvador. The itinerary depends on where your hotel is localized in the city and on the traffic conditions. We first drive through the busy area of the port of Salvador and then through some low class neighbourhoods, like Uruguay that once formed the biggest slump of Brazil. This takes us to the Itapagipe peninsula where we visit the neighbourhoods of Ribeira, Bonfim and Boa Viagem. The markets São Joaquim or Modelo that can be visited, are on the itinerary. Alternative itineraries, depending on your interests, can include the Dique do Tororó to have a look on the beautiful statues of the Orixás, African gods and goddesses, and the splendid sport stadium Arena Fonte Nova or the neighbourhood of Liberdade, one of the biggest "black" neighbourhoods of Salvador, situated in the Upper City with fantastic panoramic views on the Lower City and the Bay. Finally, we drive you back to your hotel or drop you off at an intermediate place if you prefer.

Dirk was fantastic, adapting his tour to our needs and interests. He was very knowledgeable and described the history and politics of Salvador as we drove round, we came away with a good knowledge of the city. We recommend him highly.
