A tour of the Loyalist City, the Oldest Incorporated City in Canada. Your tour will inform you of the many historical and cultural events that have affected the city.
We will discuss the Great Fire of June 20, 1877 which levelled two fifths of the city. It is said that the blaze was so huge, the light from the fire could be seen more than 100 kms away. Within 9 hours, it had reduced Saint John's uptown to a smouldering ruin that covered nearly 1 square kilometer of the city.
We will see Partridge Island and learn why this quarantined island holds so many secrets of immigrants who attempted to flee the potato famine for a new life in the new world.
We will drive the historical street of Prince William and discover the unique architecture that was a rebuild of stone after the Great Fire.
Our tour continues to Canterbury Street and the interesting facts that can be discovered if you know where to look. We will then proceed to Queen Square and the monument to Champlain, the famed French Explorer.
The tour would be approx. 2 hours.
