Exploring Bulgaria's landscape, great food and wine, small villages and country life


This unique tour gives a taste of life in the countryside, while introducing you to Bulgaria's majestic mountains, cultural heritage, food, wine, and local small-scale farming.

If the city is not your thing, and you want to explore the countryside, this is your tour.

In addition, we can still visit historical and cultural sites, with wine-tasting, hiking, wildlife observations, photography and sightseeing depending on your interests, time and ability. The Rila monastery - a UNESCO World Heritage Site - has a very rich history and has witnessed the rise and fall of different empires through the centuries.

The hiking trail network can accommodate all types of weather and personal abilities. Having said that, the tour can be enjoyed also by people who can't / don't want to walk much.

Itinerary

Day 1. We shall depart from the pre-arranged meeting point at the time set for the tour. Travel to the foothills of Rila Mountain. Depending on the time available, we can visit a horse base en route. Night in / around Govedartsi village.
Day 2. A visit to local farm / or a hike in the Rila Mountains depending on your preferences.
Day 3. Visit to the Rila Monastery St. Ivan Rilski (St. John of Rila) with an overview of it history.
Optional walk around the monastery or longer hike, with numerous photography opportunities, or just enjoy the majestic landscape and breathe the clean mountain air. Night in a near-by village in a small family guest house.
Day 4. A visit to a small family farm with indigenous races of sheep, goats, dogs. More spectacular vistas.
Day 5. Visiting a small rural community with rich heritage, producing an abundance of fruits, veggies, and some great wine.
Day 6. Melnik area and Rozhen monastery.
Day 7. Return to Sofia

We will use a new air-conditioned clean vehicle. Number of seats will reflect the number of participants, leaving some extra space for more comfort or to have your camera by your side.

10- 22 BGN for food and drinks. The amount may be exceeded if one chooses mostly expensive food options and/or larger amounts/more expensive alcohol.
