I was born and raised in Rome, where I still live in a nice and quiet area close to the Vatican. Notwithstanding that my teaching experiences lasted only a few months when I taught Italian for foreigners, most of my colleagues call me: "The Professor", may be because of my University Degree in History, or may be because I look pretty serious. . !! To tell the truth I have a deep sense of Humour, expecially when I talk about our politicians!!
I started working in tourism in 1970 (for Hertz rent a car). In 1980 I moved to the Reception of a centrally located Hotel in Rome (front desk staff at Hotel Seven Hills). In 1987 I got my licence as a Italy and Europe Tour Guide.
In the following. . 20 years (Oh mamma mia!) I worked mainly leading Tours in Italy and Europe, but in the last ten years mostly in Rome only: I love this caotic city! A great mixture of past, present and, why not, future! One day I was leading as a location manager (I did that too. . . !) a BBC crew filming here by the Campo dei Fiori fruit and vegetable market. . . Talking with one of the speakers I told him that Rome. . "Is like a beautiful woman. . sometimes you hate her. . . but you can't live without her. . . " He liked this so much that he wanted me to repeat it in front of the video camera: what a shame!!!
Do not hesitate to contact me for any curiosity, info, request you might have: your questions are more then welcome and dear to me. .
If you haven't booked an hotel yet, please know we have a small but quiet apartment to rent five minutes walk from St Peter's Basilica. It's called Ave Hospes: if it's available, all Toursbylocals travellers will get the best prices and a welcome bottle of good local wine. . :-)
By the way my wife is a musician (baroque violinist) so we offer private concerts as well. .
I like cooking, good food, good wines, good music, singing, driving and. . taking pictures. . That's why in many of my Tours I propose using a car, rented or my own one, and. . a photographic service: I bring my new Iphone6, take pictures and then I mail them to my guests. . !!
*** IMPORTANT ***
I can accommodate various groups of travelers, up to 50 guests. If you have specific transportation requirements, pricing inquiries or if your preferred start time isn't listed, please send me an email by clicking on the 'ASK A QUESTION' button that's listed on my tour page and profile. I will reply to you promptly. One more thing: all my tours are private tours so I can customise them around your specific requests: would you like visiting Tuscany? We can go! Down to Naples and then up to the Vesuvius? Let's go! Would you like multiple days tours? Let's talk about! By car or, why not, by train (I'll organize and take care of all relevant bookings) I am and will be at your disposal to make your "Journey to Italy" an amazing one, just like Goethe, Sthendal, etc when they came here doing their "Grand Tour"! Thanks!
*** As a Official Italian Tour Guide since 1987 I possess multiple special licenses. I am authorized to enter Fiumicino Airport custom area and the restricted area of the Port of Civitavecchia, as well as a lot of "specific" sites (top museums and sites, such as Coloseum, Vatican Museums, Pompei, etc). Furthermore, I can assist you with skiptheline tickets, train tickets, etc. Let's talk about: I will suggest you the best way to enjoy any minute of your visit!!
A Recent Review of this guide
Sergio was outstanding. Extensive knowledge combined with friendly personality. He was also great at periodically highlighting things our younger kids would find interesting. The tour covered so many sites with plenty of time at each. Lastly Sergio found a great spot for lunch. If you have a family with you, I highly recommend this tour.
English French and of course Italian speaking. A passion for History (and a University Degree) which I like to share with my guests. A licence as Italian Tour Guide since 1987 plus special licences to enter Fiumicino Airport custom area and Civitavecchia Port restricted areas.
