City center - The most Roman city after Rome itself: remains and monuments.
Undoubtedly, Verona is the city which preserves traces, remains and monuments of the civilization of Rome perhaps more than any other.
The town itself is Roman in its layout and basic structure: many of the old roads are in fact those built during Roman times. Even more remarkable is the memory of Rome which is still to be found in the city after so many centuries: in the arches of the bridges, in the Amphitheatre, the Roman Theatre and in the architecture of all subsequent periods.
This tour is a lively introduction to Roman Verona also aiming to show the aspects of every day life in Roman times and how this rational and solid architecture has influenced all later Verona architects almost up to the present day.
Going back to those places, it is like going back to the origin, to the roots not only of our history but also of our civil quality; it is like experiencing "the cave of the soul".
The sites of Verona that we will visit:
Roman Arena, Porta Borsari, Ancient Via Postumia with its sixteenth-century palaces, Roman Forum: Piazza Erbe, Roman excavations (from outside), Ponte Pietra, Roman Theatre.
I can create a customized tour for you in case you have special requests or if you are more than 10 people and need a larger vehicle.
