This area also has spectacular beaches, bays, rivers, lagoons, prairies, and wetlands teeming with wildlife. This scenic coastline is dotted with unique towns showing the area's logging, mining, fishing, farming, ranching, native, academic, and hippie heritage.
These communities nestled along California's isolated North Coast and Humboldt Bay have a surprisingly diverse and rich culture, despite and because of the remote location, making Humboldt County home to more artists per capita than any other county in the state. Besides the ancient Redwoods another special plant has become synonymous with Humboldt county in recent decades. Marijuana farmers have been secretly growing in these mountains for years then with the emergence of medical, and now recreational cannabis laws the area has become the center of legal outdoor growing, research, and innovation. This eclectic mix of stunning scenery, off beat culture, exquisite fresh food, beverages, and cannabis have earned the area Lonely Planet's 2018 #1 US Destination! My tremendous passion for travel, nature, history, fresh food, craft beer, and free spirit perspective showcases what makes the area extraordinary.
I am one of those people who often describes themself as being "from everywhere", growing up in several states including California then studying abroad in high school and college. Ever since I was a little boy I have been extremely interested in both human and natural history and always dreamed of working in museums but through my education and job experiences I leaned I much rather would prefer to work outside and with people in ways to connect them with my interests.
I earned a BA in US History from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and lived there the for over 10 years, working in museums, art galleries, historic preservation, and always as a tour guide. I gave bus, walking, driving, student, history, beer, wine, food, film, art, garden, nature, battlefield, and Amish Country tours throughout the Philadelphia area. Through the years I guided for several tour companies, freelance, at Bartram's Garden (the oldest botanical garden in the US), and was a 5 star guide for ToursbyLocals from 2010-2016. I was also one of the city's first certified tour guides, a member of the Association of Philadelphia Tour guides, and served on it's board.
I moved here in 2016 to embrace my California roots, escape the big city rat race, and live a slower paced life. After getting drawn back to Humboldt County's Redwood Coast repeatedly through the years I saw the need for quality specialized tour experiences. Once I moved here I dove into researching the wild history and seemingly endless outdoor opportunities, and have worked as an Uber driver to much better familiarize myself and get tons of local and tourist perspectives and insight.
I am very pleased to share the beauty and bounty of Humboldt County's Redwood Coast through my 17 years of tourism industry experience. Feel free to reach out to discuss options, I strive to give everyone the best experience for their interests and needs as well as the most for their money. So let me know about your trip and we can work together to create a one of a kind experience among the ancient Redwoods and their unique home.
