Half day tour in the morning or in the afternoon
Ravenna became capital of the Roman Empire in the 5th century! Today the city offers a unique collection of ancient mosaics in the oldest Christian temples. The mosaics are a wonderful blend of Graeco-Roman tradition, Christian iconography and Oriental style. Since 1996 Ravenna is a Unesco World Heritage site. Let's go to admire the supreme artistry of the mosaic art! Ravenna's mosaics were the main inspiration for Dante's Paradiso. The supreme poet is buried in Ravenna near the medieval church where his funeral was celebrated in 1321, that was the beginning of a long rivalry with Florence. The mosaics are amazing and inspiring and they contain crucial evidence of artistic and religious relationships and contacts at an important period of European cultural history.
