An unforgettable experience through early Christian Byzantine monuments
Ravenna has the world's richest examples of Ancient and Early Christian mosaics dating from the 5th and 6th century AD.
Mosaics with shaped tesserae made of gold and mother-of-pearl. Subjects which span from Biblical figures to Kings, Saints, Sages and Emperors, without missing the amazing starry sky in the Galla Placidia Empress small mausoleum.
This itinerary takes us back to 410 AD, from Galla Placidia we continue to the Battistero Neoniano (450 AD) wich has an incredibly beautiful mosaics in Hellenic - Roman style. Battistero degli Ariani, religious symbol of the "barbarian" Germanic peoples. We continue trough the Byzantine city, visiting the Church Sant'Apollinare Nuovo, Sant'Apollinare in Classe and the Oriental-style Basilica of San Vitale, with the world-famous mosaics of Bisanzio emperors.
Starting from the main square, long Cavour Street and entering San Viatle beautiful church. Galla Placidia's mausoleum, Neonian Baptistery and san'Apollinare Nuovo.
After lunch (I can suggest you some interesting and local place) we moove to the Sant'Apollinare in Classe Church, teodorico Tumb and Baptistery.
