Discover the ancestral home of the Zinfandel grape! Home cooked lunch if you wish is optional
Tucked away in the hills above the sea overlooking the Kastela channel between Split and Trogir is the ancestral home of where Zinfandel was born! Croatia's legendary winemaker, Mike Grgich (Grgich Hills Winery in California)and others actually did the DNA research to prove that right here, not Italy or elsewhere, Zinfandel was born. We will visit one of the premiere boutique wineries, meet the master himself, whose vineyard had been in the family for more than 300 years. All estate produced, one of his four varieties is unique in all Croatia! Enjoy two luscious whites and two amazing reds with some wonderful local delicacies and learn more about this legendary story. This is authentic Croatia, well off the tourist track, with limited production of just 6000 bottles a year of three different wines--none of it sold retail, so only you and other travelers can buy! And you can even taste right out of the barrel, if you wish.
We will meet in Split and drive to the winery. Enjoy three kinds of wine, local delicacies and on the way back , if we have time, stop to enjoy one of the restored "kastels" (castles) along the coast that were the original homes of Croatian kings and royalty. Private car or van.

We were met promptly at the cruise port & immediately engaged in personable conversation. Both Robert and Jerry, the driver & wine educator, are extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic & comfortable to spend hours with! We were treated as friends! We learned a lot about the wine region, history and what it's like living in Croatia. We fell in love with the wines! The garden was beautiful to walk through too. We felt a world away from the busy cruise schedule. LOVED THE TOUR
