The Uffizi Gallery is the most ancient museum in the world. It dates back to 1583.
Uffizi, from ancient Florentine means "offices". In fact, the beginning of this structure, commissioned by Cosimo I de Medici and projected by Giorgio Vasari in 1560's, hosted all the magistracies, guilds and corporations of Florence.
Today Uffizi hosts about 10000 artworks, among which a worldwide famous masterpieces, like "The Spring by Botticelli", "Tondo Doni by Michelangelo", "The Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci" and many others.
Note: even with the skip the line tickets, we may find some line for following reasons:
- It's a very high season
- we are not the only ones having skip the line tickets
- Uffizi is the most visited museum in Italy
- and last but not least: There is no any german working inside the museum, they are all Italians, so sometimes they take their time;)
