It's no wonder Melbourne was rated as the world's most liveable city for seven years in a row.
I have lived and breathed Melbourne, having been born in St Kilda, one of our earliest tourist areas. Since childhood I have spent my holidays on the Mornington Peninsula and I still go sailing regularly near Mornington.
I am now semi-retired from my lifelong career in solar power and I have enjoyed getting back into guiding for travelers over the past 3 years, as I did back in my university days. It is such a privilege to show visitors around and I do my best to treat you as I do any of my family or friends visiting from overseas. I have read widely on the history of Melbourne and appreciate how it has evolved through the years.
I was very fortunate to live in North America for 8 years and have also traveled the Europe and Africa continents so I really appreciate what makes a good tour: flexibility and just the right pace . . . .
On my tours I offer to show you the highlights but also the local gems. We will drive or walk or travel by public transport (in the city) as needed. Bring your walking shoes and if we're heading to the Mornington Peninsula consider bringing your swimsuits just in case our beautiful Port Phillip Bay calls to you.
My family Heritage has been in Melbourne since the 1850s and I would love to give you an insight into the Aussie way of life. Melbourne became one of the world's great cities remarkably soon after settlement. But what makes Melbourne so special now? Is it our multiculturalism? Is it the fantastic cafes and laneways? Is it our unique and somewhat controversial street art? Is it the fantastic climate, countryside and enthusiasm for all things sporting? Or is it just the laidback lifestyle of we Aussies? Another shrimp on the Barbie?
Let me also take you further afield down to the Mornington Peninsula, one of the wonders of Australia. There is so much to see as listed in my tours but it can include anything from visiting our wildlife to a swim at the beach or fantastic walks in unparalleled scenery. How about relaxing at a special Winery or Cafe? I also offer a tour to see our unique wildlife at Healesville Sanctuary in the famous Yarra Valley which also boasts some of Australia's best wineries. The day is yours to enjoy.
Before your tour we will talk about the things that might interest you and I will tailor the time to your interests. There is much to see and often so little time. I would be very privileged if you would spend that precious time discovering Melbourne and surrounds with me.
