I would be thrilled to show you all the city has to offer - the main sites, as well as all the fascinating nooks and crannies along the way!
I am a seasoned Berlin guide with 14 years of experience. I was born in central Pennsylvania and graduated from Penn State University with BA degrees in History and Jewish studies. I first came to Berlin on a scholarship from the German government and immediately fell in love with the city. After a year of learning both German and Berlin, I returned to the United States to complete a MA degree in Modern German History at Brown University. My plan was to stay and complete a PhD, but the pull of Berlin was too strong!
I am now a dual-citizen and feel lucky to be able to call Germany my home. I have a tremendous amount of experience as a guide with all sizes and types of groups, both on foot and in vehicles. Booking a private tour means that you are the boss, and I want to make sure that the day goes exactly as you imagine it. Each guide has their own style, and I try to tackle Berlin's tumultuous history with both facts and stories. Nothing makes sense without a few dates and names, but the anecdotes are what makes the city's past come alive. On a tour with me, I will encourage you to ask any questions that you may have - about the past, the present, and what I think may happen as the city continues to change and evolve. My goal is that by the end of our time together, you will know and understand Berlin's past, you will know how the city is set up and connects, and you will have lots of recommendations for additional places to see, museums to visit, and restaurants to try. Starting your stay in Berlin with a tour with me allows you to get the most out of your first day and sets you up for a wonderful visit.
I look forward to hearing from you and to personalizing your tour to make sure you get the most out of your time in Berlin! Vielen Dank!
A Recent Review of this guide
Heather was super prompt in responding to our initial email on Tours By Locals, incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. We appreciated that she customised the 2 days of touring for us, and understood straightaway what history geeks were were. Her knowledge of Berlin and her warm, candid personality helped bring the city alive for us in many different ways, and we leave with a much greater understanding and appreciation for Berlin, its people and what the city had gone through. Highly recommended!
