Explore the most attractive and valuable part of South Velebit
Two most impressive sites of Paklenica are the canyons of "Velika Paklenica" and "Mala Paklenica". The big canyon is 14 km long and 500-800 m wide. Vertical cliffs rise above both sides of the canyon up to a height of over 700 m.
The small canyon is of lesser dimension, and the torrent running through it is much less powerful. In its narrowest part, it is only 10 m wide, while the surrounding cliffs rise up to a height of 650 m.
The area of Paklenica National Park is one of the most completely explored areas in Croatia in terms of speleology. 76 speleological objects are known and have been explored in the Park, namely 39 pits and 37 caves.
For all bookings in 2016, I donate a free side trip to the old fisherman village with one of the most impressive panoramic views on our coast. It is marvelous, unforgettable and hidden for masses!
We start with light walk through Great canyon with a few stops at springs and viewpoints. After approximately 1, 5 hour walk up the hill, we approach "Manita peć" cave at the altitude of 550 m. 175 meters long cave is divided into two halls abundant with stalagmites, stalactites, drip-stone pillars and cascades. The temperature in the cave is around 9°C all year round, so adequate clothing should be brought along.
After visiting the cave we will continue walking over the small peak using fixed ropes in the cliff to the upper floor of the canyon. Our next goal is alpine hut (another hour) at the end of the Canyon, with bird eye views over the canyon below us, from where there is an easy 1, 5 hour walk down the hill to the starting point.
After hiking we will have a lunch break before reaching panoramic viewpoint over the old stony fisherman village. After exploring the village with its castle we hit the road back to Zadar.
