Private Tour Stirling Castle, Deanston Distillery, Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park.
Stirling Castle guards the gateway to the Highlands and is called the 'Brooch of Scotland' because whoever held it controlled the country. From its walls there are fine views of the route we will take later in the day.
Scotland's medieval battles for independence were fought in its shadow, the Battle of Stirling Bridge under the command of 'Braveheart' William Wallace and the Battle of Bannockburn won by 'Outlaw King' Robert the Bruce. It is also the location of the Renaissance palace of James V and was a residence of his daughter, Mary Queen of Scots.
Lunch is informal followed by a tour of Deanston Distillery to learn about the making of Scotland's national drink. There will also be an opportunity to drive past Doune Castle or 'Castle Leoch' of Outlander fame.
We return via the scenic Duke's Pass and Loch Venachar following the line of the geological fault which separates Highlands and Lowlands. We will enter one of Scotland's two national parks with the opportunity for a further rest stop.
