Three phenomenons of karst hydrography
Croatia's first and largest National park, Plitvice lakes, also inscribed on the UNESCO's World Heritage List is one of our main pearls that attracts visitors from all over the world. Inside the park are located also our biggest waterfall, density forest, caves and trekking paths full of life of many endemic fauna and flora spices. "There are water, lakes, waterfalls and forest elsewhere, but Plitvice Lakes, are unique they simply must be seen!" (Academic, Ivo Pevalek, 1937).
Rastoke waterfall area is something special as well. Everywhere around you is only water and waterfalls. On the so called island lies small remote village with nice and basic options to overnight, do not miss this opportunity.
The last Phenomena of this region and of karst world are its caves. Enjoy some underground atmosphere and play of the nature.
Morning drive towards "small Plitvice lakes" area in Rastoke, the first kasrt phenomena on our way. Here we admire number of waterfalls from the island where the two rivers meet each other. Enjoy a sip of coffee while the time pass by. In nearest and forgotten Lika region we are going to visit its cave near the border with Bosnia. After an hour spent underground we proceed to the restaurant to have a lunch. The afternoon is reserved for famous Plitvice lakes NP with the entrance time strictly after 04h00 p. m. We are going to explore the Lower lakes area which is the most beautifull part of the National park.
We will visit ex miller's house on the way to the most beautiful panoramic view point over the biggest Croatian waterfall and lower lakes with famous Emerald lake, where our most famous movie of Winnetou was filmed.
We will arrive to Zagreb around 10h00 pm.

We had two tours with Senad - a Zagreb city tour, and a customized Plitvice Lakes tour where we did almost all the hiking trails, plus a stop in Rastoke for dinner. Both were excellent - the city tour included plenty of current commentary and interesting stops (and a stop for excellent beer and local foods). Plitvice Lakes was spectacular; Senad helped us minimize our exposure to the crowds, and the drive down was an education in the effect of the Balkan war on the country. Highly recommended.
