, or 'the Mediterranean as it once was'!
My name is Matt and I come from the southern coast of Croatia, the region of fascinating beauty called Dalmatia (yeah, those cute, black-spotted dogs come from here, too!). I originate from island Hvar and I live in the capital of Dalmatia - 1700 y/o UNESCO city Split.
Even though I have a masters degree in Marketing - since 1999 tourist business (arranging private tours and guiding) has become my primary occupation.
I love history and Arts and I enjoy sharing the beauty of my region with my guests. My biggest passions are traveling and experiencing new cultures, customs & people (I consider myself lucky that I've been able to visit more than 50 countries so far), gastronomy & wines, foreign languages, photography, literature, architecture, history, geography and international politics. I am a big fan of outdoor activities, especially biking, sailing & hiking.
I have been a tour guide since 1999 and during that period I have shown my country to thousands of guests from all over the world. I have been working with the main tour operators from Croatia, US, UK, Australia, New Zealand & Japan. I have been guiding and organizing tours and customized & tailor-made itineraries for individuals & groups all around Croatia & abroad.
For my guests in Croatia, I will be glad to organize and guide the whole variety of tours (half-day, one-day, 1-week, 2-week. . . ) around Dalmatia & Croatia, in general.
So. . . maybe you would like to take a morning walking tour of the historical 2-millennia old UNESCO city of Split (discovering its complex history and also seeing some of the Game of Thrones filming locations) and then enjoy traditional Dalmatian lunch in some of the typical 'konoba' restaurants afterwards, followed by a visit to the 3-millennia old UNESCO town Trogir - just a 30 minute drive from Split?
Or you are a nature lover that prefers pacing in amazing surroundings of hundreds of waterfalls of UNESCO National park Plitvice, or of those of National park Krka, or at beautiful river Cetina canyon, a half an hour from Split. . .
Would you like to swim in the most transparent sea in Europe? Maybe you wish to enjoy a private speedboat / sailboat tour, or a driver-guided tour of my island - one of the world's 10 most beautiful islands - Hvar - or visit island Brac, the place where the White House stone came from and the island with the most famous beach in Croatia - the Golden Horn/ Zlatni Rat. Or maybe visit the breathtaking island Vis (filming location of Mamma Mia II, in 2017) and its famous Blue cave. . .
Or, would you like to explore one of the best known symbols of Croatia and the Mediterranean - UNESCO town Dubrovnik (being the King's Landing in Game of Thrones. . . ) -
and explore the wonderful wider region of Dubrovnik - peninsula Peljesac (and its delicious oysters, mussels and famous wines. . . ), beautiful island Korčula (birthplace of Marco Polo), Konavle & the Neretva valley, or the neighboring country Montenegro? Or to experience the oriental charm of the 'Small Istanbul' - town Mostar (Bosnia) and its medieval, UNESCO bridge?
Or you would like to go for a unique adventure: to try trolling method, fishing for a 20-lbs amberjack or dentex? :)
Whatever your requests are, please feel free to contact me and I will organize the tour that suits your plans, wishes and schedule the best!
I provide private walking tours, driver-guided tours, wine & brandy tours, cycling & hiking tours for individuals & groups, big-fish fishing tours, private speedboat-, sailboat- and yacht tours, as well as road transfers from/to neighboring countries: Slovenia, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Serbia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Kosovo & Albania.
I am looking forward to being your private guide and to sharing with you my favorite places in Split, Dalmatia & Croatia :))
A Recent Review of this guide
Matej was waiting for us when we arrived and was very knowledgeable throughout the 2hr walking tour of Split. He adjusted the tour according to what we had already seen and was very helpful in making recommendations for the remainder of our time in Split and in Croatia. I would highly recommend Matej as a tour guide.
