from the Spey Bay Dolphine Centre to Pennan, the film set of Local Hero
This tour begins at the Spey Bay Dolphine Centres, with the chance to see the Dolphins, the Osprey or the Otter hunting. Not far from here is a Seal Colony, where the Grey and the Common Seal live close together. From here we will drive along the scenic coastal route with exquisite and varied landscape, from beaches and impressive red sandstone cliffs to rolling green hills. Amongst this spectacular scenery is Bow Fiddle Rock, where you can walk along the coast into Cullen and stop for a traditional meal, the Cullen Skink. an impressive castle ruins called Findlater (which is derived from the Norse for "white cliffs") due to the white rock used in it's original construction. Pennan is the next place we will visit and this quaint village is nestled amongst steep cliffs. The village owes it's fame, as the filmset, to the film "Local Hero" made in 1983. Here the day will come to a close with a well earned and much needed, drink or two in th
We will be heading for Spey Bay and either see the dolphins or find out there movement for the day. From here we will follow the coast line to see the seals and go on to a beautiful rock formation also perfect for coast-steering. From here, you can go for a beautiful walk into Cullen and spot for a traditional Cullen Skink. A short visit to Cullen House is recommended and we will drive on to Findlater Castle, which is now a ruin. A longer drive will take us to one of the oldest grave Yards, lying beautiful on top of a cliff. Not far from here is the biggest mainland Gannet colony and other sea birds. Penna will be our last stop, where you can go for a pint or a meal in the small fisher town. It became famous through the movie "Local Hero" with probably best known actor Burt Lancaster, Peter Riegert, Fulton Mackay, Denis Lawson and others. From here you can rest and I take the main road back to Elgin. If you want to see all of it, follow my advice. Otherwise tell me your preferred options.
