Visit UNESCO World Heritage city of Toledo just 70 kms away from Madrid
Just 70 kms away from Madrid, discover UNESCO World Heritage city of Toledo and its historical area.
Toledo was the capital of Spain until 1561, and it was nicknamed the "European Jerusalem", due to the cohabitation of the three cultures, the Christians, the Jews and the Muslims. For that reason the city hosts an incredible amount of historical sites, such as the Cathedral, the synagogues or San Juan de los Reyes.
The Cathedral is one of the most impressive cathedrals in Europe, it is very rich and it maintains an astonishing cultural heritage. Toledo is the only city in Spain that still hosts two synagogues and has one of the best preserved former Jewish quarters in the country.
Toledo was also the place where El Greco, the famous painter, developed most of his successful professional career.
Note: Please note that the Cathedral opens at 14h on Sundays.
Starting the tour at your hotel or agreed upon location, we will drive to Toledo for about an hour. Once we arrive in Toledo, we will go up to Zocodover square, the main square of the old city and the starting point of our walking tour. Here we will learn about the importance of Toledo in the history of Spain and of Western civilization.
Then we will continue to the Cathedral, which is the most important cathedral in Spain, constructed in Gothic style and which keeps the wealthiest custody in the country, apart from keeping an amazing cultural and pictorial heritage.
We will continue to the former Jewish Quarter where we will enjoy El Greco's masterpiece, "The Burial of the Count of Orgaz" and one of the synagogues of the city, Santa Maria La Blanca.
