Don't miss out on any of Montevideo's main attractions! During this tour, you will be able to enjoy an invigorating stroll along the streets that make up the historic district and the neighboring downtown area, in the company of a local friend who's ready to answer all of your questions and show you the details which may not be visible to the untrained eye. We will be visiting historic buildings, squares, churches, souvenir shops and we'll catch a glimpse of the River Plate and its magnificent 'Rambla' promenade.
The following is a list of the places to be visited during the tour. The order may change due to opening or closing times of some of the places.
> Old City highlights: Mercado del Puerto (restaurants, art stalls and souvenirs), Sarandí pedestrian street, Matriz Square, Cathedral, Town Hall.
> Where the old and the new city meet: replica of the walled city gate, Independence Square, Torre Ejecutiva (seat of the executive branch of Uruguay's government), Solís Theatre.
> Downtown Montevideo: 18 de Julio avenue, Entrevero Square, shops.
Some extra activities to choose from: San Francisco de Asís Church with underground chapel, Pre-Colombian and indigenous art museum, National History Museum, Puro Verso bookshop.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: I will meet you at Independence Square, outside the cruise terminal if you are arriving in one, or at your hotel if you are staying downtown.
Cruisers, please notice that access to the terminal is restricted. Therefore, I will be waiting for you just outside the main entrance.
End location: Back to the point where we started the tour. If you'd like some advice on further places to visit, just let me know.
