The Philosopher's path and its beautiful temples and gardens
Step back in time walking along the charming Philosopher's path lined up with dozens of temples and gardens. In spite of being dotted with some of the most amazing temples, shrines and gardens in Kyoto, Northern Higashiyama is far less crowded than Southern Higashiyama and it makes a perfect half day trip within the city.
We'll first visit Nanzen-ji temple and its zen garden, climb up the impressive Sanmon gate and get surprised by a Roman-looking aqueduct running through the temple complex. A short walk will take us to the Eikando Zeinrin-ji temple complex, jaw-dropping in autumn but still a beauty all year round. We'll then start our relaxing walk along the Philosopher's path which runs along a beautiful small stream. A short detour before reaching the world famous Silver Pavilion (Ginkaku-ji), the final stop of our trip, will take us to the Honen-in, a little gem of a temple, with a moss covered entrance gate and a quaint and peaceful garden.

Our half day tour of Kyoto with Luca was fantastic! Luca is friendly, conscientious, and very knowledgeable about Kyoto and Japan. I highly recommend booking him for a tour and I will be recommending him to my friends and family if they are planning a trip to Japan. Thanks, Luca!
