Cheese and Chocolate and Wine!
This is your chance to discover the regional culinary specialties, visit open air food markets and boutique food shops while interacting with the locals. Of course along the way we will see many of Bordeaux's historical monuments. I will customize this day to your tastes. You want chocolate? I know the best chocolate shops in the city. Cheese you say? Well, get ready for a dairy induced buzz like you have never experienced. Of course no Bordeaux trip would be complete without wine so I will take you to a wine shop where you will taste and/or buy some lovely Bordeaux wine.
While Parisian fare is known to be delicate and fancy, Bordeaux cuisine is rich and hearty. Duck confit, foie gras, and steak frites are the local specialties. We are close to the shore so seafood is prominent as well. I will inquire about your tastes before you come and make sure you eat to your heart's content.
Before our tour ends, I will help you locate foodie souvenirs and offer meal suggestions for the duration of your stay.
This day is going to be different each time based on your interests and tastes. Open air food markets are open for business on different days so we will work around the local schedules as well as your desires. I will take you to a café for a coffee and a pastry and go through the plans for the day making notes as to what you would like to focus on. The weather will partially dictate our plans. . . on a beautiful day, I can help you shop for an evening picnic on the riverside. We will start in the open air markets where you can see the beautifully displayed local produce as well as some exotic offerings. I will take you to chocolate shops, pastry shops, cheese shops and more. Most shops close from 12-2 so I will have reserved a lunch restaurant in advance, again based on your specifications and we will dine like the French which is to say slowly savoring each mouthful and never asking for a doggie bag :) After lunch, we will continue the tour, picking up any souvenirs that you would like.
Meeting Point + Tour Duration
Meeting Point Options: Rail or Bus Station, Cruise Ship Port, Hotel, Address or Intersection, Monument/Building
End Point Options: Rail or Bus Station, Cruise Ship Port, Hotel, Address or Intersection, Monument/Building
Duration: 4 hours
4 hours is what I suggest, but if we linger a bit longer over lunch...no worries.
We will walk, but if the weather in uncooperative, we can always jump on the tram.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
10 euros - You may need 10 euros for a bottle of water or a small souvenir.
I do not go to La Rochelle or Verdon-sur-Mer to pick up cruise shop passengers because these locations are 2 hours from Bordeaux.

Stephanie is very friendly & very knowledgeable about both the city & its history, and the best local places for food and wine. We had a delightful time. While we walked & used the tram to get around town, she gave us the background & history of what we were seeing. We stopped at selected venues that had the best of whatever we were tasting. She tailored our stops to our interests & tastes. This was a great way to get to know the city intimately in a single day. Highly recommended!
