Take a walk through history and learn about the dark side of the Republic!
This tour covers some dark themes from Dubrovnik Medieval history. If your interest surpasses the usual sightseeing this might just be the perfect tour for you!
Did you know that the punishment for gossip was clipping your tongue on a public square for an hour? Did you also know that symbolic executions have been performed in Dubrovnik? Would you like to know how the life of the demimonde used to look like during the Republic times? I can answer all these questions for you, and many more; regarding crimes and punishments, espionage, poisoning and prostitution, about the locations of the public executions and conditions in prison cells.
With me, you'll discover that Dubrovnik has had such an interesting history that could be turned into scripts for several blockbuster movies. . . it had it all, conspiracies, coups, brothels, poisonings and even one dragon. This tour is equally interesting for GOT fans as well as for the people who haven't seen an episode of the series because it covers many different themes.
The tour starts at Ploče gate - eastern entrance to the city and it continues inside the city walls, covering the most important and interesting monuments, squares and streets. On our walk we will first stop at Luža square, followed by the square in front of the Rector's palace where the prisons were once located.
The tour continues through the streets where the original Medieval walk of shame was held and next to the house of the most famous Croatian playwright who was plotting conspiracies against the patrician government. After listening to interesting stories and walking around the city and it's cobblestoned streets we will leave the walls behind at the west entrance known as Pile gate where we'll head out to a nearby park called Gradac where public executions were held.
This tour can be customised to last shorter or longer and it can cover some other things that may interest you; just let me know. Also the timetable and the general schedule can be customised to fit your vacation plans!
