As the home of Australia's largest defence base, Townsville North Queensland possesses a fascinating military history like no other. Our Military History Tour weaves together Townsville's history, culture and scenery allowing you to delve a little deeper into the personality of Northern Australia's largest city. You will explore museums, memorials, monuments, barracks, spectacular lookouts and lush tropical gardens as you piece together the stories of the people and events that have played an integral part in Townsville's military history. The tour includes a visit to the Blackhawk Memorial, located in a botanical collection of Palm trees one of the biggest collections in the world. We have allocated time for you to experience these beautiful gardens. We visit 5 locations across the city, so you get to see a fair amount of the city as we move between locations. This is interesting glimpse into the story of Townsville which continues to be written to this day.
Here is your personal itinerary, but this can be varied according to the conditions on the day and your wishes;
9am Pick-up from cruise terminal or inner city hotel
9 to 10:30am Jezzine Barracks and Kissing Point Fort
10:30 to 12pm Military Museum
12:00 to 1:30pm Black Hawk Memorial / Botanical Garden Walk / Lunch at Tumbetin
1:30 to 2pm Lavarack Barracks
2 to 2:30pm French Street WW2 Code Breakers
2:30 to 3pm Return to cruise ship
Note: bad weather would stop this tour from operating
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Cruise-Ship Terminal - just outside main entrance for those arriving by cruise ship or your hotel foyer or inner city accommodation. With notice we can pick you up from our international airport and I will meet you at the luggage Carousel. Will carry a sign saying toursbylocals so I am easy to identify.
Duration: 6 hours 30 min.
The above duration may be dependant upon the size and age of our group and weather and/or road conditions.
End location: passengers will always be returned to the place of pick up unless otherwise requested, happy to be flexible with the drop off point if different from the start point, as long as you provide reasonable notice (before the day of travel)
If you need to be back to catch a departing cruise ship or plane at a certain time. We will modify the timings of the tour accordingly

Air conditioned 14 Seater Toyota Hi-ace Commuter, we also have a second 8 seater late model IMAX Hyundai Commuter, so we can take groups sizes up to 20 people on request

While lunch is not included - we stop for a late morning tea, If you want extra food or drink their will be opportunities to purchase. You would expect to pay approximately $10 to $20 AUD for a light lunch meal this would include your drink
