My name is Gabrielle I am a private Guide and I would be delighted to show you amazing beauty of Dordogne Area of France and to share with you the incredibly rich history and stunning landscapes . I will guide you off the beaten paths in medieval villages, hilltop castles, and pre historic caves of the region.
I have been working as a tour guide for 8 years in the Loire , the Provence & Luberon, walking the Camino path and now in the Dordogne region .
I was born in Germany and grew up in Australia but was always greatly influenced by my European roots. I studied Linguistics and European Art and History. Afterwards I returned to Switzerland to completed a degree in Business Hotel Restaurant Management and studied to be a Cordon Bleu Chef. My career took me all over the world. I decided to return to France where I had studied and worked and now I am a resident for 6 years, choosing to live in the beautiful Valley of the Dordogne River.
I have always been passionate about travelling myself and often as a tourist love to discover new places and cultures, to find some cute, charming, hidden spots only known to the locals . With this in mind I make my tours a combination of history & sightseeing with stories and legends of the people who lived in these places. I seek out unique and quaint restaurants to sample local cuisine and wines. On weekends we visit gourmet markets and shop like locals and wander the amazing antique markets, as well as the visit small farms where they produce delicious local produce.
My aim is that in the end of our tour, is that you feel you have for a short time, been immersed into the life of the locals its beauty, history and stories and leave with wonderful memories. …. All of my tours can be combined and altered to suit your interests. . . . . . . . . I look forward to meeting you .
A Recent Review of this guide
On November 20 and 21, Gabrielle W was our guide in the Dordogne, France. Even though the travel was completely out of season, she researched options for us and then gave the 3 of us a thoroughly interesting historical trip in that part of France and imparted local knowledge that only an insider would know. She knew the region, was aware of options, and took us to hidden little gems. She made me want to come back during tourist season to see all that is on offer in the area.
- Bachelor of Linguistics, European History, Art & Architecture
- Diploma of Business Hotel Restaurant management
- Cordon Bleu Chef
Most sites we visit, there is a local expert who will explain the historic significance. I accompany you all the way, and I also can provide further local knowledge and extensive history of the region as we travel through the countryside.
