Shore excursion to discover ancient Pompeii and the volcano
The ruins of Pompeii, part of an ancient Roman city destroyed and buried by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in79 A. D. can be visited during this tour. The remainder of the uncovered city is today buried under the new Pompeii rebuilt many years subsequent to the eruption. Archeological excavations are open to the public between the hours of 09:00 and 18:00 every day of the week, guides can be hired at the entrance or headphones can be rented with voicing explanations of the sites.
Mt. Vesuvius is certainly the most important and the most interesting volcano existing in Europe. Famous for having buried, but also preserved for us, the two most famous archaeological sites. It owes its importance to the imposing size being the biggest on continental Europe (not mentioning Etna in Sicily) with a max height of 1281 mt. and diameter of the top cone (600 mt). Through the centuries many have been the eruptions, but never that catastrophically, like the one of 79 A. D.
We will start the tour on the Mt. Vesuvius first.
We will reach the top of the mountain to the entrance of the crater, the mouth of the most dangerous volcano in the world! Bring your camera: the view will be breathtaking!
After the visit, we will reach the most important winemaker of Lachrima Christi on the slopes of Mt. Vesuvius with the enchanting view of the bay of Naples. This wine farm is located just few hundred metres below the peak of the Volcano Vesuvius.
Here you will have a classical Italian lunch that includes bruschetta with fresh tomatoes and olive oil served with salami and cheeses, accompanied by a glass of white and rose', Lacryma Christi. Then, spaghetti will be served with little hill cherry tomatoes; it is their speciality (spaghetti made by one of the most important pasta makers in Naples).
At the end, in Pompeii, you will breathe the authentic Ancient Roman atmosphere travelling to the past.
