There are water, lakes, waterfalls and forest elsewhere but Plitvice Lakes are unique
Plitvice Lakes is a composition of 16 natural lakes of unique turquoise water. In terms of weather, the water changes color to blue, green, aquamarine and turquoise. This is because of the way the sun hits the water and because the organisms and minerals contained in the water.
The lakes are divided into two groups, upper and lower lakes. The lower lakes are more beautiful and richer in waterfalls. Among them is the largest one, called Big Waterfall (70 meters high).
Due to its special natural beauty, this area was declared a national park in the year 1949 and in 1979 UNESCO declared this area a World Natural Heritage Site. The beginnings of tourism in the Plitvice Lakes are recorded much earlier, since 1861.
It takes almost 2 hours long drive from Zadar to the entry point of Plitvice NP.

Irena was awesome - she made us feel comfortable right from the start. She had lots of knowledge and didn't once seem tired by our incessant questions! It was a tiringly long day but her energy and enthusiasm lasted until the end when we were securely dropped off at our hotel lobby. We will most definitely want to see Irena again when we return. She made our short trip so very worthwhile, we loved it!
