River Road Excursion

We'll rendezvous at your hotel for an introduction then travel 1 hour drive up River Road to a French Colonial style plantation. You can choose, *Destrehan Plantation, Laura Plantation, Oak Alley or Whitney Plantation. Many affluent plantation owners, had a "townhouse" in New Orleans. Family members would come to town for business, and most importantly, for Mardi Gras. After the social season, the family would return to their plantation, upriver. We'll follow in the footstep of one of these families, once there, one of the plantation's own guides will lead us through the colorful home. Can't choose? We recommend *Destrehan Planation. In addition to the main house, there are demonstrations most days. The demonstrations may include African American herbal remedies, historical carpentry or bousillage, depending on the day. We'll take time to learn about these River Road traditions. There is the option to make a full day of it and visit two plantations, let us know if you want to see more!

Meet at your hotel.
Drive approximately one hour to a plantation. Destrehan is only about 45 mins.
The tour of the plantation is an embedded tour, with the plantations own guides. You will join a public tour, of up to 32 people ( but usually far fewer)
note: If you would like to do tour with just your group let us know and we can make arrangements - there is an additional fee which goes directly to the Laura Plantation.
Return to New Orleans. During the drive there and back he way I'll share information and we will make it fun!
