A 45 minute drive from downtown Dakar, takes us to the Senegalese version of the Dead Sea. If you want to get away from the city for a bit, the Pink Lake would be a good option. However, the drive to the Lake offers great views of rural life.
Within years, the Pink Lake has been one of the most visited places in the city thanks to its color but also thanks to organizers of the Paris to Dakar Rally
The lake has algae live in the water and attracted to the natural salt. The algae is what causes the Pink color when the sun shines on the Lake.
It's well worth a visit. Very interesting to see men harvesting the salt. Enjoy huge salt piles.
A 4 Wheel Drive through the sand-dunes and along the Ocean give a unique experience.
I look forward to showing you how the lake has a tremendous impact on the lives of the local population.
Leave DAKAR for a 45 mn drive to the lake, pass traditional villages and the famous military cemetery then proceed to the largest cows market in the city.
Experience open air markets on the way.
Arrive at the lake and board the 4x4 jeep Truck to ride through the sand dunes.
Stop to experience salt miners collecting salt from the lake and take pictures.
Visit a FULANI compound and meet with village chief. The FULANI are one of the largest and most diverse ethnics groups in Senegal.
