Explore the Amazing Sonoran Desert
The city of Phoenix is located in the Sonoran Desert. Home to the Saguaro cactus, the Sonoran boasts the most diverse flora and fauna of the four North American deserts.
The spring bloom generally lasts from March thru early May and punctuates the landscape with golden yellows and vibrant pinks and orange flowers. Wild life is also abundant and sightings of Javelina, coyotes, and numerous birds are very common.
For outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, mountain biking or trail running, the Phoenix metropolitan area is an oasis! Phoenix has the world's largest municipal park--South Mountain Preserve. Criss-crossed by 60+ miles of scenic trails, South Mountain Park contains over 16, 000 acres of rugged, desert mountain terrain. Additionally the greater metropolitan area has the Central Mountain Preserve, the McDowell Mountain Preserve to the east and numerous options to the north. Our exact 2+ hour hike can be tailored to how strenuous an adventure you are up for--relaxed and mellow to heart pumping!
I will pick you up at our agreed upon start location and we will drive to the trail. We will hike for 2 to 3 hours and then I will drive you back to your hotel.
Special gear recommendations: I strongly suggest wearing a hat, sun glasses, sun screen and hiking shoes.
