Ideal to combine themes: Coimbra World Heritage, Riverside & Legends of Love, Jewish Heritage, Student's Fado
I will show you my city in a fun, interactive and unforgettable way! You will feel like a local, even if your stay in the city is for a couple of hours, visiting the most typical places and using our five-senses. At the end of the tour you will understand why as "Coimbra more charm when it's time to say goodbye"… and you will want to come back!
I can combine themes and build an unique journey through the streets of the historical center, classified by UNESCO as World Heritage in 2013.
We will visit the main monuments in the city, including World Heritage classified (since 2013) buildings, while walking in the most typical streets of the downtown, uptown, and the Jewish neighbourhood. There we will find and learn about the typical "tascas", restaurants and pastries, best handicraft shops
While walking up the Hill we will have wonderful panoramics to the city parks and gardens. . . and learn about the oldest theme park in Portugal as well as about the tragic yet beautiful story of love of Pedro & Inês (the Portuguese Romeo and Juliet story). Speaking about love, we will also let you know what FADO really means, and that in Coimbra consists of a Serenade, different from Fado in Lisbon!
During this tour you will also learn about typical Portuguese architecture and architecture during the Portuguese Dictatorship (that lasted till 1974); famous Portuguese people and their houses while student's at the oldest University in Portugal.
The tour will be adapted on the go taking all in consideration!
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: This is a private tour, so please let us know if you wish us to meet you in a point of interest or your hotel in the city center. We will start the tour from there. If you wish pick-up with private transportation, please let us know and we'll be glad to help!
End location: We usually end the tour in the city center, near the shops and restaurants so you can enjoy your time and buy a souvenir!
Duration: 8 hours
In Coimbra's city center I advice doing walking tours because it's the best way to admire the architecture and enter the monuments and places. If needed, we can use public transportation (there is a great historical center electric bus as well as a lift that takes us from the riverside to the University, so we will use it if needed).
