History and Cultural Walk of Armenian, Canon and Acheen streets
This guided walk will take you through the historic enclave to discover its extraordinary historical fabric and heritage. For over two centuries, this area has been Penang's 'melting pot', forging close trading relations, cooperation and inter-dependence between diverse groups such as the Chinese Peranakan also known as Baba Nyonya (Straits Chinese) and the Jawi Peranakan (Straits Muslims) and even the close alliance between the Chinese triads and its Malay counterparts known as Secret Society to the British in the port city of George Town in 19 century.
Come and discover Armenian Street, Canon Street and Acheen Street and be amazed by the diversity of architecture, cultural practices and the many untold hiStory that are abound in just a short distance.
The walk starts at the junction of Armenian Street and Acheen Street. Then the tour will proceed thru Armenian Street to look at Syed Al-Attas Mansion, a mid 19th century bungalow belong to Syed Muhammad Al-Attas a pepper trader and also a Malay triad leader and listen about its history.
Rows of shophouses of different era along the same street. Dr. Sun Yat Sen who in 1910 had held a famous 'Penang Conference' that oversaw the topple of the Qing Dynasty in 1911 and the founding of modern Republic of China had used one unit as his headquarters. Then proceed to Yap Temple a Chinese Clan temple to understand the role of a clan house the Chinese community. Next on the same street is the Tua Pek Kong Temple a temple built for political motives by the Khean Teik Secret Society as their headquarters. Next is visiting the first clan temple in Penang the Leong San Tong Khoo Khomgsi on Canon Street before proceed to Acheen.
A 19th century mosque built by Arab community from Acheh became the Hajj center for Muslims.

Meeting location: For passengers of cruise ship stop-over: Penang Cruise terminal (Swettenham Pier).
For free travelers: George Town World Heritage Inc, 116 & 118, Lebuh Acheh, George Town, 10200 George Town, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
End location: For passengers of cruise ship stop-over: Penang Cruise terminal (Swettenham Pier).
For free travelers: Outside of Khoo Kongsi Ancestral Temple. (The temple involve entrance fee of RM10 if you want to visit)
Duration: 3 hours
There are three possible start times in the morning and evening. Due to afternoon could be very hot you can opted for the evening tour.
If no of travelers is up to 6 pax, you may hire a taxi, Grab car or Uber to come to the meeting location.

200 RM - Local currency is needed per person for own lunch and dinner and perhaps you want to visit nearby attractions such as museums and clan temples. Such places usually involve entrance fees. Or maybe for some little souvenir after the tour has concluded.
Need to have sun block lotion, cap or small umbrella to avoid strong sun light in the afternoon. Please wear a proper walking shoes.
