The best way to try French specialties straight from the shop
In Paris we don't have supermarkets, just some chain convenient stores and small fruits shops here and there and of course, the farmers markets that happen every morning of the week, in different neighborhoods of Paris, where the locals live.
You won't find a farmer's market on Les Champs Elysées, or next to the Louvre, although they are not so far away, just hidden in small public squares or large pedestrian avenues.
They usually start at 8am and finish at 1pm, often paired with some flea market, but mostly selling fresh vegetables and fruits.
Whether they are organic and expensive or cheap and a bit off the season, the products you find on the markets are colorful and they are sold by energetic vendors that will give your samples to try their products.
From exotic fruits to salads, it's always fun to walk through the alleys of the market and find out about new species.
The markets are also a good place to find cheese, wine, meat and fish and get everything to cook a nice meal at home like the French do
I usually start my tour with a bakery stop, and get a croissant or pain au chocolat to taste.
Then we walk around the market area, commenting about the products, try some fruits or olives and then we start with the serious stuff, cheese and wine tasting.
We then finish with a sweet touch and try some dark artisanal chocolate to keep you going for the rest of the day!
Meeting Point + Tour Duration
Meeting Point Options: Rail or Bus Station, Hotel, Address or Intersection, Monument/Building
End Point Options: Rail or Bus Station, Hotel, Address or Intersection, Monument/Building
Duration: 3 hours
Usually market tours are a bit intense as you feel like walking a lot but I like to have a quiet moment, sitting at a café, to watch and talk about Parisian habits, and cooking tips.
If you want to cut shorter, let me know and I will make it fit in two hours, just enough time to try a bit of everything and have fun!
We will walk through the market area
