From the Middle Ages to the High Renaissance
From the Middle Ages onwards, art was essentially religious. The ever changing and evolving ways of practicing Christianity had a deep impact on the styles of the artists and the demands of their patrons. The paintings tell us stories from the Bible as seen through the prism of their era.
The main part of the tour is in the Renaissance gallery and will include artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Titien.
As well as my art history studies, I also studied theology at the University of Exeter in the UK.
Renaissance gallery, Denon wing, Louvre. From the proto-Renaissance - Cimabue, Giotto, through the High Renaissance of Florence and Venice, including Botticelli Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Veronese, Titien. Richelieu wing, the Calvinist influence in 17th century Netherlands.
