Petra Tou Romiou - Paphos Harbor - Paphos Castle -Panagia Chrysopolitissa - Tombs of The Kings
Paphos is on the southwest coast of the island. It has a very important role in the Cyprus history.
Petra Tou Romiou . (Aphrodite's birth place), Medieval Castle, Panagia Chrysopolitissa and Ottoman Hamams and the last stop of the day will be Tombs of the Kings. If you haven't decided to take this tour yet I am sure you will make up your mind after you read the itinerary so do not skip this tour.
We drive from North Cyprus to South Cyprus. Paphos is on the west. We stop at Petra Tou Romiou . (Aphrodite's birth place) to take photos. We drive to Paphos to see the Medieval Castle which was built originally as a Byzantine fort to protect the harbour. It was rebuilt by the Lusignans in the 13th century, destroyed by the Venetians and on 16th century rebuilt again by Ottomans. At Paphos harbor we drink our refreshment. We than drive to Panagia Chrysopolitissa church which was built in the 13th century over the ruins of the largest Early Byzantine basilica on the island. Within the compound you can see St. Paul's Pillar, where according to tradition Saint Paul was flogged before the Roman Governor Sergius Paulus was converted to Christianity. The floor of the basilica is covered with colourful mosaics. Ottoman Hamams can also be seen here. The last stop will be at the Tombs of the Kings which spreads to a vast area from 4th century BC. This is a great opportunity if you want to see the west of the island.
