From Roman times to present day
Start at Opera House square. Through the colourful street market Capo, we reach the 12th century Cathedral. Inside we can admire a Renaissance holy-water font among other things. Proceed to Bonanno palm grove to reach the16th century city gate Porta Nuova and continue to the Norman Royal Palace where the Palatine chapel is located. Admire the mazing Byzantine mosaics and an Arab-painted wooden ceiling inside. Continue across old streets until the Bellini square for a foto-stop (Martorana and San Cataldo churches) and visit the baroque Holy Catherine church, proceed to the monumental Renaissance fountain Pretoria and the Baroque Quattro Canti square. Back to Opera house.

it is a long walk in pedestrian zones and narrow alleys. Impossible to go by bus or taxi in the historical town but possibility to have here and there some breaks.

transportation is extra, for I have an ordinary driver's license and a special one is needed to transport visitors.
