NB tour fee includes entrance into any free entry sites (generally max 18 persons per guide is the colleges' policy) but it does not include entry into paid entry colleges or university sites. Most free entry colleges have restricted entry hours & may close without any notice. Paid entry sites are unlikely to close suddenly. We can do an excellent tour without even entering any colleges but if you want to ensure entry into paid entry sites, please bring extra cash on day to cover such costs. Examples of entry fees per person: Divinity school £1, Balliol college £1-2, New college £4. Which venues we can visit inside will depend on the time of day that you want to book the tour & depending on what's open day to day.
Guided tours lasting approx 90 minutes introducing Oxford city & university & take in most of the famous sights and many of the colleges. Which colleges we can visit inside will depend on what's open on day & time of your booking & what you may agree to see inside of, as some venues are free & others charge.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Meet me by the red 'Info' sign just OUTSIDE Oxford visitor info centre, 15 Broad street, ox1 3as. I will be wearing a red 'iloveoxford' lanyard.
NB there is another visitor info centre inside Boswells shop, 5 Broad street- please note that is NOT where we meet!
Meeting point is located 5 minutes walk away from where coaches drop off & collect on St Giles street.
End location: Tour generally ends on Broad street
Duration: 1 hour 30 min.
These tours aim to last approx 90 minutes. Youth group tours could be slightly shorter, if it suits you. Tours may be up to 2 hours long. If you wish to however book a longer tour or a combination of more than one tour, please just request this before writing. You can feasibly book the tour to start at any time but please be aware that most colleges don't open until 1pm or 2pm and close mostly last entry at 4.45 for 5pm. My own preference is to deliver these tours to finish before 2.30pm.
Guided tour. If you want to book a tour for groups larger than 18 persons, please be aware that while we can do this, the official policy of all colleges is groups more than 13 or 18 persons need to be split. In practice though, except for the free entry colleges, the paid entry colleges rarely enforce this policy anyway.
We are including entry into free entry colleges, where & when open & numbers permitting entry. Entry into any paid entry colleges is not included in the price paid here but can be paid in cash on the day. Every college has different entry prices & schedules, so it's much easier to discuss which options may suit your preference after booking the tour & then pay cash on the day for any such entry fees.
I also recommend that any groups larger than 25 persons, consider booking a second guide. Toursbylocals policy is that I am not supposed to delegate tours to other guides but if you wish to book much larger groups, it is worth discussing option to book more than one guide BEFORE booking.
Estimated Local Cash Needed
1 £ sterling - £1-£5 depending on any venues you may wish to enter which are chargeable entry colleges
Any entry fees for any paid entry colleges which you may decide to include on tour eg New college (Harry Potter film site) costs £4 per person, Divinity school costs £1 per person, Balliol costs from £1+ per person.
This tour does NOT include option to visit Christchurch. Christchurch costs from £7-11 per person, depending on season & it requires advance booking or you will end up likely waiting an hour in a queue to get in. I advertise Christchurch as a more expensive tour which requires more advance notice.
