A walking tour of Oxford: the city, the University and their historic and literary connections
Lying in the heart of England, Oxford is a lively university town with a wealth of interesting history.
This walking tour of Oxford includes the University (the oldest in the English speaking world), it's ancient colleges, libraries, churches and the Ashmolean museum.
We'll also see the site where the protestant leaders of Reformation were burnt at the stake in 16th century and the College from where Charles 1 ruled during the English Civil War (1642-1646).
Then there are the literary connections. Lewis Carroll, JRR Tolkien and CS Lewis were professors at the University, Inspectors Morse and Lewis were based in Oxford and some Hogwarts scenes in Harry Potter were filmed there.
Start at the Ashmolean Museum.
Walk through the centre of the University area, passing the Martyr's Monument, Balliol College, the Sheldonian Theatre, the Bodleian Library, the Turf Tavern and the Radcliffe Camera.
Then on to Christchurch College and Christchurch Meadow.
We will enter Christchurch College and the Divinity School at the Bodliean Library - the entrance fee is not included in the price of the tour.
