For the military history buff.
This tour is a pleasnt walk based on the military heritage and history of Old-Quebec. It features not only the fortifications but all of the military structures and buildings.
A visit of the Citadel and museum is not included.
The tour also depicts the events before, during and after the French and Indian wars (1755-1763), including the American Revolution influence and invasion attemps.
The overall history of Old-Quebec and of the French, British and Modern periods is also intermingled with the military events.
A document describing the arms, projectiles, fortifications and territories is handed out to the visitors.
The tour starts at the Champlain monument. After a brief introduction, we move to the Place-D'Armes, the Citadel and the Cavalier-du-Moulin. We the go on to explore the fortifications, Esplanade Park, Artillery Park, the Dauphine Redoubt and Rampart Street.
Meeting Location + Tour Duration
Meeting location: Champlain Monument on the Dufferin Boardwalk, located next to The Hotel Chateau Frontenac.
End location: The tour will end at the Montmorency Park and the Prescott Gate.
Duration: 3 hours
The tour is available from April to November.
If the weather is uncooperative, a vehicule may be used at the request of the visitor.
The Military Heritage Tour is a walking tour.
At the request of the customer and with an added cost, a VIP vehicule may be used if the weather is inclement.
